Photographers: Why You Need a Work Routine

Do you have a work routine?  If not, you need one!

For so many years as a photographer, I was just like:

  • I’m going to work from the time I wake up until the time I go to sleep
  • I’m going to take a short vacation
  • I’m going to watch TV while I work

Sound familiar?  Honestly, my business wasn’t able to really take off until I had a set work routine. Not only is this really going to help you to improve your business, but it’s going to help you give 100% in other areas of your life as well.  I personally don’t have children, but I know a lot of you guys do. I hear a lot from parents that they struggle when they’re working, because they feel like they should be with their kids. But then when they’re with their kids, they feel like they should be working. That’s exactly why I want to challenge you to set a work routine!

My personal work routine is 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with an optional work day on Friday. I typically shoot on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and sometimes Thursdays, but I make sure that I have some kind of a routine.  A lot of us leave our jobs to get out of the routine, but trust me, it’ll really help you grow your business and keep you from feeling so pulled in each direction. That way, when you’re spending time with  family, you’re 100% with family, and when you’re spending time working, you’re 100% with work.

Go now and create a work routine. I promise you are going to absolutely love it and reap lots of benefits from it!
