I never thought I could make a living doing something that I loved.

For the longest time I thought a job had to feel like a job, something that I dreaded going to.

I remember when I worked at a gas station in college and I would count down the minutes until my shift was over so I could meet up with my friends to do photo shoots.

We would dress up and take turns modeling for whoever’s turn it was to photograph.  It was so much fun!

We would also get dressed up in wacky outfits and drive up north to take photos in abandoned buildings, bed and breakfasts, or vacant land.
How could I ever think I could get paid for something like this?
How could I ever think I could get paid for playing dress up and making art?
For too many years I listened to people telling me I couldn’t make good enough money off of being a photographer. That I’d have to get a real job and do my artwork on the side.
…but something in me told me I could.
Something in me told me it was worth a shot to have a job that I LOVED.
I’m sure you’ve heard this before but it’s one of my favorite quotes. “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Along with that quote I also believe that if you want something bad enough you’ll find a way to get it.You’ll devise a plan that will have that goal in the end.
You will put in the time, the work, and the effort to see it through.
What is your dream?
My dream was to making a living doing what I loved. I absolutely love photographing people, and helping them realize their beauty. For me, this was best expressed through boudoir photography.
After my first boudoir session I was hooked. It was all of the best worlds for me rolled into one.
As soon as I realized that, I worked my ass off to make a living doing just that.I devised plan after plan, goal after goal.
One of the most important plans I put into place to make this all happen was my marketing plan.It needed to be solid so I could bring in enough ideal clients to photograph each month, so I could make a living doing what I loved.
I remember at first i dreaded marketing….but I told myself that I had to do whatever it takes to make this work. I wanted this bad enough that I was going to try and try until I got it right
…and that’s just what I did.
After years of marketing trial and errors, I found what works for consistently getting 3-4 qualified boudoir clients per week through my studio doors.
I’m now 7 years into owning my photography business and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t remember working at that gas station.
There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not proud of myself for having the courage to chase that dream.
